Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in jail for murdering his girlfriend.
According to MSN, the Supreme Court of Appeal demands that Pistorius receives a harsher sentence.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is scheduled to hear why the state deems an increased sentence necessary.
Pistorius asserts that he thought that Reeva Steenkamp, his girlfriend, was an intruder and thus shot her in an act of self defence.
Critics of the sentencing argue that Judge Thokozile Masipa should have used the prescribed minimum sentence of 15 years as the basis for her final sentencing.
In the digital sphere, Twitter has not taken the light sentencing too well.
Tweeters have gone as far as suggesting that Pistorius received a meager sentence due to the fact that he is white and affluent.
A comparison has been drawn between Brickz and the Blade Runner to illustrate this perspective.

#OscarPistorius white privilege is when you murder someone and get 6yrs in prison while the black guy gets 15yrs for rape.

Bricks was sentenced 15years (Rape) and #OscarPistorius 6years for Murder there is no justice here

Brickz, a local kwaito artist received a stern 15-year sentence for raping his niece whereas Pistorius has been given a six year jail sentence for murder.
Firm supporters of the notion that the murder of Steenkamp was an accident, have taken to defending Pistorius online.
Reeva’s death was tragic accident the state wanting #OscarPistorius 2 serve 15 year is an act of vengeance & so far removed from Justice.

#OscarPistorius sentence should NOT be increased! It was an accidental killing – NOT murder. It’s a miscarriage of justice. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Do you think the difference in sentencing between Brickz and Oscar essentially came down to race? Or is it a matter of the ‘lesser of two evils’?
