Indonesia to ban social media sites if they don’t remove pornographic content

Indonesia asserts that they will ban all the major social media networking sites if they refuse to ban obscene material and pornography.
Indonesian Minister of Communications, Rudiantara has stated that Google, Twitter and Facebook, to name a few, will face dire consequences if they do not make an effort to block obscene content.
According to MSN, the Minister has stated that the extreme consequence is a permanent ban of the sites in Indonesia.
With a population of 260 million, Indonesia has the world’s biggest Muslim population.
There is an increased concern in the use of social media to spread racism, violence and incite terrorism.
Pornography and child abuse has been added to the list of content to be blocked.
There has been a threat to ban Whatsapp as well unless the graphic content is removed from the GIF images.
Google, Twitter and Facebook are banned in China.
