Doc-U-Mentally – an award-winning film about the extreme pressures junior doctors face in South Africa is now available on DVD for R200.

The documentary that was produced and directed by Francois Wahl, follows the story of five doctors from vastly diverse backgrounds, during five hair-raising calls. It’s a race against time, which shows how these doctors battle through the trauma and mayhem of a 30-hour work shift at Ngwelezane Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal.

Since its debut last year, scores of fans and aspiring doctors have been waiting for the film’s DVD release. Thanks to the financial support from Pharma Dynamics – one of the main backers of the film – Doc-U-Mentally will soon also be accessible on iTunes and Netflix.

Doc-U-Mentally won the award for ‘Best Cinematography’ at this year’s prestigious South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) and was also voted the Best South African Documentary at the Jozi Film Festival in 2016.

The gripping 82-minute film attempts to hit home the plight of junior doctors in SA and serves as a strong catalyst for change in SA’s under-resourced healthcare sector.

Sponsors include Pharma Dynamics, the SA Medical Association, KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission and fellow doctors who raised significant funds to produce the film via a successful crowdfunding campaign.
