The Pretoria High Court has ruled that National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shaun Abrahams must vacate his position.
Times Live notes that Judge Dunstan Mlambo has said: “The appointment of Shaun Abrahams as the National Director of Public Prosecutions is reviewed, declared invalid and set aside.”
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has been given 60 days in which to appoint a new NDPP.
According to News24, Mlambo also ruled that former prosecutions head Mxolisi Nxasana will not be reinstated on account of the pending corruption case.
Reports assert that Nxasana accepted a golden handshake worth R17. 3 million from President Jacob Zuma, and left the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in 2015.
News24 reports that the organisations want the golden handshake to be repaid.
