US President Donald Trump has responded to claims that he referred to immigrants from Haiti and Africa as coming from “sh*thole countries,” insisting that he is not racist.
Speaking to reporters at his Florida resort at the Trump International Golf Club, Trump denied being “a racist,” reports CNN.
“No, No. I am not a racist,” Trump said when questioned about his opinion on people who think he is racist.
“I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed. That I can tell you,” he added.
Reports assert that Trump allegedly made a racist comment during a meeting with a bipartisan group of six senators.
According to sources who were briefed on the meeting, despite being prohibited from speaking about the meeting publicly, Trump apparently used the word “sh*thole” to describe African countries.
ABC News reports that according to the sources, Trump said: “Why are we having all these people from sh*thole countries come here?”
Trump has also been accused of questioning the need to admit more Haitians to the US.
Trump has since denied these allegations, but did not speak about the matter too explicitly
