Thokozani Mvalelwa has been found guilty on five counts of rape and has received five life sentences for crimes committed between June and October 2016.
According to a police statement, the 34-year-old appeared in the Port Shepstone Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.
An investigation ensued after one of the victims, a 6-year-old girl, told her mother that Mvalelwa had raped her and given her R2 not to tell anyone.
The girl’s mother reported the matter to the Port Shepstone police.
During the investigation, police discovered that Mvalelwa had raped at least 13 children, apparently after playing games with them and promising to give them sweets.
However, only five of the victims were fit to testify.
Mvalelwa pleaded guilty to all five cases of rape.
