American actor and musician Mark Salling, best known for his role as Noah “Puck” Puckerman in the popular musical comedy-drama show Glee, has died.

Salling’s death has been confirmed to CNN by his attorney, Michael Proctor.

“I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early [on Tuesday] morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment,” said Proctor.

The circumstances regarding his death are unclear.

According to information available to CNN, police responded to a report of death in wooded area near Tujunga.

Reports speculate that the actor had committed suicide, in order to evade his upcoming sentencing.

Salling was arrested in December 2015, when police were given a tip-off that he was in possession of images of children being abused.

Thousands of images and video footage of child pornorgraphy was found in his possession.

In May 2016, CNN reports that Salling was indicted on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.

Salling pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, and was set to receive his sentence on 7 March.

Salling was expected to be sentenced to four to seven year’s imprisonment, and an additional 20-year period of supervised release.

Part of his sentencing also required Salling to register as a sex offender.
