Siam Lee murder accused says police tortured him

Philani Gift Ntuli, the man accused of kidnapping and murdering 20-year-old Siam Lee, says that he is being tortured in police custody.

Ntuli was arrested in connection with the murder of Siam, whose charred body was found on a farm, approximately 100km from where she was last seen alive in Durban.

According to Times Live, during his second appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s court on Friday, Ntuli protested going back to Durban North police station.

Ntuli alleges that he was suffocated with a plastic bag to “to implicate [himself] in something [he] wasn’t involved in.”

Times Live reports that Ntuli has said: “Even when I was arrested at my house I was suffocated several times. They punched me in the face to get a blood sample from me. They told me when they arrested me that I was either going to confess or leave in a body bag.”

Ntuli also says that his rights have been violated as he has apparently not been allowed to consult with his lawyer.

Despite Ntuli’s request to be moved to Westville police station, Magistrate Mohamed Motala ruled that he is to return to Durban North police station.

Private investigator Brad Nathanson  previously stated that upon his arrest, Ntuli was “cocky and cheeky” and did not want police to place handcuffs on him.

Ntuli is set to reappear in court next week, facing charges including murder‚ kidnapping and fraud.
