Decomposed infant found at PE beach

The body of an infant, believed to be aged between one and two months, has been found buried in the sand at Summerstrand Beach, Port Elizabeth.
According to a police statement, the gruesome discovery was made on Sunday morning while a resident had been walking her dog along the beach.
The dog is said to have sniffed out the infant who was only partially buried in the sand.
The body had decomposed to such an extent that the race and sex of the infant could not be identified immediately.
However, police are awaiting the results of a post mortem report.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that it is rather unusual for a baby to have gone missing without it being reported to the police, and then be found under such circumstances.
Police are therefore seeking the cooperation of anyone who is able to assist in the case.
Any information should be reported to Humewood detectives on 041 5045088 or D/Lt Col Van Meyeren on 082 457 4606.
