Grade 11 learner stabs peer at school

A 21-year-old learner has stabbed a fellow learner during school hours at a high school in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

The suspect and victim are both 21 years old, in grade 11 and attend the same high school.

According to a police statement, a fight broke out at school around midday on Monday.

During the fight, the suspect “severely stabbed” the victim with a sharp instrument, after which he fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, as the stabbing had left him in a critical state.

The circumstances regarding the fight are unknown, pending further investigation.

Police have appealed to the public to help track down the suspect who is still on run.

Police have advised parents, teachers and members of school governing bodies to ensure that learners are not armed with any weapons when going to school in order to avoid such incidents.
