Two men have received a double life imprisonment sentence each in connection with a housebreaking incident in which they shot and killed a 57-year-old man and raped his 63-year-old wife.
The suspects, Joseph Mashava (29) and Shimbuya Munjarazi (28), appeared in the North West Regional Court in Mahikeng on Tuesday for the crimes committed on 29 January in Waterfall Village, Rustenburg.
In addition to the double life terms, the suspects were sentenced to five years imprisonment for housebreaking, 15 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances, five years for the possession of an illegal firearm and three years for the illegal possession of ammunition.
North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane has welcomed the sentencing.
Motswenyane maintains that this sentence will make it clear to other criminals that “crime does not pay.”
