Police are on the hunt for a group of suspects involved in the bombing of a cash-in-transit vehicle in Makhado, Limpopo, on Monday.

According to a police statement, the robbery occurred near Hendrick Verwoerd Tunnel around 16:30.

It is understood that the cash-in-transit vehicle had been travelling from Musina when a Toyota Double Cab GT6 overtook it and opened fire.

In an attempt to evade them, the driver made a U-turn.

However, there were two vehicles, a black M.L Mercedes-Benz and a dark blue unidentified bakkie, behind them who had also opened fire.

Police say that the suspects aimed for the tyres of the cash-in-transit vehicle, which ultimately brought them to a standstill.

The suspects then blew up the safe of the vehicle and made away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Fortunately, not fatalities were reported.
